This week in Spring: January 4th, 2011

We hope everyone had a good holiday and a happy new year. Welcome to a new series that captures some of the noteworthy community activity of the preceding week. That’s the idea, anyway. This week we’ll expand our coverage just a little to include the activity leading up to the holiday break.

  1. Colin Sampaleanu just published a great Introduction to Spring MVC for the novice in our "Green Beans" series.
  2. Gunnar Hillert has published a post on using Spring Mobile, jQuery Mobile and SiteMesh together.
  3. InfoQ has published a lot of Spring content from SpringOne 2010. There's a lot there. The two keynotes (Rod Johnson’s keynote on day 1, and Adrian Colyer’s keynote on day 2 are available. There are presentations on Spring Roo, Spring Web Services, the future of the Spring framework, the relationship between Spring and Java EE, and Extending Spring Integration. There are interviews with Juergen Hoeller, Rod Johnson, Matthias Radestock, Mark Fisher and Mark Pollack, Emil Eifrem, and Brad Abrams.
  4. Roy Clarkson has blogged about using the new Spring Android project and Maven together.
  5. The Spring Greenhouse project provides a great reference application for Spring portfolio developers of any proficiency level. Gordon Dickens writes about his exploration, and the use of default properties when using the PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer on Javalobby.
  6. The tireless Spring enthusiast, Gordon’s also blogged on using Spring Social (the idiomatic Spring integration with various social networks) to lookup someone’s "friends" with Twitter.

  9. Spring Mobile now has site preference management independent of site switching (it was both really cool and inspiring to watch this feature - from forum discussion to implementation to functional feature - unfold in a matter of a few vacation days! Be sure to check out the Spring Mobile project page for more information.
  10. Ken Rimple has blogged about the state of the Spring Roo Flex Addon, as well as the basic steps to get it working in Roo here. To learn more about the Spring Roo Flex add-on, check out the original release blog.
